Happy Independence Day!
I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!
We had the pleasure of marching with the Waukesha County Democratic Party on July 3rd in the Menomonee Falls Independence Day parade. On the 4th of July, Emily Siegrist, a fellow veteran and candidate for the 24th State Assembly District, and I marched with our supporters in the Germantown Independence Day parade.
This time of the year is one of the best. Our friends, family, and neighbors all gather to celebrate what makes our country great. We celebrate the ideals and values that make us proud to be Americans.
We must remember the words that our founders wrote: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
We honor these words this week that mark the creation of our country. Though we’ve fought over how these truths are applied, I’m running for Congress because I believe that these truths are self-evident, and apply to everyone, regardless of gender, race, creed, religion, orientation, or anything else.
I believe that’s really what this country really is about ― treating every person with the dignity and respect they’re entitled to as a person. We have fought wars and political battles to extend the rights of citizenship to women, people of color, and so many more, and we shouldn’t go backwards.
We must continue to uphold these values during this turbulent time.
Because all people deserve fairness and equality. Through fairness and equality, everyone will have the opportunity to achieve their American Dream.
